Why did you choose to train with the Active Health Group?
"I chose AHG after searching for hours on the internet. I searched courses in Australia, UK, and Norway. I found that AHG had good accreditation, good subject coverage, and I felt the part home-study, part practical, and part case study format suited me. With this set up I was able to work at home on assignments and continue with my job at the same time. It was important that the course was not all home-study because I wanted to learn the practical skills properly, and interact with others in the sports therapy field."
When you were searching for training was your alternative option if you couldn't have trained with us?
"My alternative option was a three year Adv Dip Sports Therapy course with a school in Australia. It looked like a good course however it was long, and expensive."
Did we fulfill what you expected to learn and achieve?
"I was not sure what exactly I was going to learn, or how I was going to learn it. Now having finished most of the course (except case studies and final exam process) I am very pleased with what I learnt, and I feel confident in applying the skills professionally. The scenario days were great because they allowed us to use the techniques we had learnt and put them into case study format."
How did you feel about booking on to a course in a different country? Did you have any difficulties/worries about coming to the UK?
"I was a little anxious because I felt helpless if something went wrong with payments or if I felt the standard was not to my liking. I researched who had accredited the course, what subjects were taught, compared it against other schools, and asked for advise from those around me. After this research and once I made contact with Richard (when I heard him talk about wanting to make this a great experience for me and the dedication to good quality training AHG has) I felt at ease. I also felt more and more confident as I received my books, and assignments. I had never been to Manchester so I was also concerned with where I would stay for my time there. AHG supported me by giving a discount which I used to fund my hotel fees."
Did The Active Health Group offer enough support in your enrolment or do you think we could have offered more support?
"you had a list of the assignments you were required to do, the names of the books that were coming, and the names of the tutors\AHG group that you will be working with in the future. Having this information in the first days of enrolment helps the student understand what is coming up next, and what is required of them."
Would you recommend other people travel to us to the UK to do the training or do you feel your alternative training could have been a better option?
"I highly recommend going to the uk and studying with AHG Adv Dip Sports Therapy. The course taught me well, I felt well supported by the staff and other class mates, and was really pleased to hear that there were opportunities to work in the clinic."
What could we have done to improve your stay?
"AHG supported me very well during my stay. Once I arrived everything flowed very well. I would only say that it is nice to have as much information as possible a few weeks before arriving eg. Info on: school hours, an itinerary, what books to bring, if previous assignments need to be brought, or print outs from the internet websites. It was very helpful to get the email on what we is best to be wearing on the course, and to leave jewelry at home."
Did you feel safe in the UK? Were you happy with the hotel and location?
"I felt very safe during my stay. I always knew that I could contact the school if I needed to, and once I met my class mates I also had people to hang out with."
Did you enjoy the course?
"Yes, I really enjoyed the course." "I thought that the school location, and rooms, the variety of subjects, the opportunities in the clinic, notification of other jobs, information on insurance, and the staff were all of great quality."
How can we help to support you once you return home and set up in business. Or how did we support you in setting up?
"I am glad that there is a forum I can contact people on if I have questions, and the AHG facebook page to stay in contact with everyone.I would like to continue to know about the workshops\courses offered, newsletters, and be involved in discussions or debates about topics. I feel the best way in supporting me in setting up my career is to just be able to have communication so that I can ask questions when they arise, and I feel that AHG has done well in creating the environment for this to happen."
Additional Comments
"I started studying with AHG in 2008 with the Advanced Diploma of Sports Therapy. The course structure allowed me to begin my studies in Norway where I live, and work at the same time. The first part of the course included a home study package of books, assignments, and website access information. After completing the assignments I traveled to Manchester to attend the practical part of the course. During the practical weeks I was able to build on information that I had studied with the home study package, learn the hands on aspects of sports therapy, meet others in the industry, and even work a few hours in the local sports therapy clinic. The final part of the course consisted of case study work, and once again I could return to Norway to undertake this section of the course. Many subjects were covered on the course, with lots to learn about all aspects of sports therapy. I completely enjoyed my time studying with AHG and look forward to participating in workshops in the future. AHG has given me a great start in my career as a sports therapist."
