| Frequently Asked Questions |
Who validates/accredits the courses ?
Our main accrediting body is Sports Therapy Organisation. We have various courses, validated and accredited or endorsed by some of the lead bodies in the UK, including: Society of Sports Therapists (Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy), Sports Massage Association (ITEC Levels 3, 4 and 5 in Sports Massage Therapy), REP's (Fitness Instructor & Personal Training). Our courses meet the standard of the governing bodies, GCMT, SRTC and the current regulator CNHC.
Who issues the qualifications ?
We run various recognised qualifications - STO accredited Active Health Group certificates and diplomas; ITEC and ActiveIQ. Accreditation by our awarding bodies is a guarantee of quality. It means that a learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited annually. We have been licensed by our awarding bodies on the basis of our own quality systems. We have heard claims that some of the levels offered by other training providers are not to usual educational standards. We counter this claim by stating that our Level 5 qualification takes around 500 hours to complete, with students spending between 12 and 18 months in training. By its very definition, our level 5 is the equivalent of a HND or Foundation degree, and is accepted by most universities (we havent tried them all yet), for entry onto their own BSc Sports Therapy programmes. Learners successfully completing our accredited programmes receive a nationally-recognised certificate.
What types of courses do you run ?
Our training portfolio covers Sports Therapies, Bodywork and Fitness. We also run CPD workshops for therapists and a range of home study courses.
How do I pay for the courses ?
We accept payment by cheque, cash, or all credit and debit cards. If you pay in full, a discount is given (this is valid only to courses costing over £1,000. Not including any special offers or in conjunction with any other discount). For courses costing over £1000 you can opt to pay in up to 8 instalments, with a £500 deposit. Courses costing less than £500 can be paid with a £100 deposit and up to 3 monthly instalments. Courses costing between £501 and £999 can be paid with a £300 deposit and up to 5 monthly instalments. Course fees must be paid prior to the end of the practical training, and before the qualification is issued. E-Learning courses must be paid for in full at the time of enrolment. Full payment details can be found in our terms and conditions.
Who teaches on the courses ?
All our trainers are fully qualified and with a vast amount of experience in their particular field. It is a requirement of all our trainers that they are practising in their particular field.
What happens if I cannot complete the home study in time ?
We allocate enough time to complete the home study modules before you attend the practical dates, but we are aware that your circumstances may change. In all cases we offer tutorial support via email, letter, telephone and face to face. As long as you inform us of any change in your circumstances, we are able to support you with extra tuition, both during the home study period and also during the practical training dates. In the event that it is impossible to complete the home study in time, we will allocate different training dates.
What are the job prospects for a sports therapist ?
Sports Therapists are gaining huge recognition in the UK, and this has led to more and more companies, sports clubs and individuals, seeking their services. Recent Sports Therapy vacancies have been advertised with starting salaries of £27,000 pa. In private practice earnings of up to £50 per hour are possible. Some of our graduates have gone on to do the following jobs: Osteopathic Assistant, Football Sports Therapist (up to Premier League), Rugby Sports Therapist (up to SuperLeague level), Lecturing, Sports Injury Clinic, Private Practice, GP's Surgery, European Ski resort, Dance School. Some NHS trusts now employ Sports Therapists in the physiotherapy departments.
Where do you run your training courses from ?
Our aim in to ensure our students work in a relaxed and professional atmosphere, and similar to one in which they may be working upon graduation. It is for this reason that we run most of our courses from our own purposely designed training centre, with attached clinic in Manchester City Centre. We have spacious training rooms, resource centre/library with free internet access and full use of our comprehensive range of books, dvd's, videos and PC CDRoms, kitchen plus our on site clinic. Our therapy clients know the high quality of our training courses, and will often volunteer for treatments from students. We also work with many sports clubs, so on-site work can also be arranged. We also offer students an online resource centre, giving access to websites, course notes, tests and exams. Fitness/Personal Training courses may be run from our local gym in Manchester. When we get demand to run our courses in different areas of the UK, we will do so, however, we cannot offer the same facilities as our main Manchester venue, however we endeavour to find similar accommodation such as the British School of Osteopathy or Lincoln College.
I have checked out other courses and your seems expensive !
The simple answer is, they arent! Our practitioner level 5 courses prepare our graduates for a proper career in the industry. People regularly attend our courses after paying a few hundred pounds for a course elsewhere, and tell us they wished they had saved their money and come straight to us! We pride ourselves on being the longest established private sports therapy training provider in the UK, and can boast that our graduates are some of the most respected.
What is the difference between a diploma in Sports Therapy and a Degree in Sports Therapy ?
Probably around £30,000! In all seriousness, we are confident that our Advanced Diploma prepares you for work as well as, if not better than the BSc, the reason, well for one, sports therapy is a hands on profession, not academic, and we actually train BSc graduates (from sports therapy, physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation), on our sports courses because of the quality of our hands on training!
Why do you offer 'home study' courses ?
At AHG we firmly believe in 'blended learning' and continue to use this with all our course. We decided to develop 'home study' courses, so that interested people can try a therapy, before they commit to investing in a full course. We do not offer practitioner level courses by distance learning
Why is your Sports Therapy course run over 20 days when I have seen others at 5 days ?
Our Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy is run over 20 plus home study and case studies, and has been assessed continually as containing 500 hours worth of study. We work with the governing body to ensure that our courses meet all the standards in the UK. Active Health Group feel that training providers who cut corners are doing their students, and the industry a dis-service. We offer a 'fast track' course leading to a Diploma in Sports Therapy, however this is for practising and experienced sports massage practitioners and sports therapists who just need us to 'fill in gaps' in their training and knowledge. Our Advanced Clinical Diploma is run with 30 days of practical training, and home study.
What is the difference between Active Health courses and those of other training providers ?
There is only one company that run AHG qualifications, and that is AHG! We don't franchise or license our courses, and we don't have hundreds of colleges with varying standards. When you train with us, you can be assured of the highest standard of training, backed by a national awarding body, and working very closely with the Lead Body and Regulator. We find some of the other therapy courses on offer disturbing due to the huge variances in their standards. As an example, you can do a level 3 sports massage course in 3 days at one college, or 1 year at another. It just doesnt make sense! AHG have full control over the quality of their courses.
How do I enroll onto a course ?
Apply online on our online enrolment page or call us on 0161 235 5307. Our standard terms and conditions need to be agreed to before an enrolment is accepted.
